A falcon’s flight: Nature thrives at UC Davis Health

(SACRAMENTO)

If you’ve ever looked up while walking across the UC Davis Health campus, you might have spotted one of our most remarkable neighbors—the peregrine falcon. Known as the fastest animal on Earth, peregrines can dive at speeds over 200 miles per hour, making them extraordinary hunters and a symbol of resilience.

Recently, one of the campus falcons put on an unforgettable show. Perched high atop one of our buildings, the falcon faced a group of crows attempting to taunt it—a bold move considering the falcon’s prowess. Moments later, the falcon launched into the sky, effortlessly soaring above the commotion and revealing a dramatic sight: prey clutched firmly in its talons. It was a stunning reminder of the wild beauty that coexists with our health care mission.

These falcons have become an integral part of our campus ecosystem, helping control pigeon populations and adding a unique touch of nature to our urban environment. Their presence reflects UC Davis Health’s commitment to sustainability and harmony with the natural world.
