Celebrating our graduating medical students’ Match Day

(SACRAMENTO)

Dear Colleagues,

National Match Day last Friday was a day of nervous excitement for 120 of our fourth-year medical students who, along with graduating medical students nationwide, learned where they will receive residency training after graduation on May 17.

Serena Ly and Brandon Swenson, engaged to be married this May, are a "couple's match," which means they will pursue residency training in the same city.

We are delighted with this year’s School of Medicine Match Day results, which reflect the talent and hard work of our Class of 2025. Eighty-two percent of our graduates will stay in California for their residency training, with 19 percent staying at UC Davis Health. More than 63 percent matched into primary care specialties. You can view our Match Day video highlights here.

I wholeheartedly agree with Dean Susan Murin, who recently shared, “We are immensely proud of our outstanding Class of 2025 and their commitment to a life of service that will transform lives. I’m also grateful to our dedicated Office of Medical Education team, who helped support them in every step of their medical school journey.”

Residency is an intensive training program that spans three to seven years, depending on the medical specialty. Match Day is a milestone in becoming a board-certified physician and marks the transition from medical school to residency.

Please join us in congratulating the Class of 2025 on this rite of passage to becoming the extraordinary physicians we know they will be. We hope you will join us as we celebrate this remarkable group of future doctors at their graduation on May 17!

Sincerely,

Mark Servis, M.D.
