Celebrating the Year of the Horse: UC Davis Health APASA ERG marks Lunar New Year

(SACRAMENTO)

The Asian Pacific American Systemwide Alliance (APASA) Employee Resource Group at UC Davis Health kicked off the Year of the Horse with its annual Lunar New Year celebration at the North Addition Office Building.

Lunar New Year — also known as Tết in Vietnam, the Spring Festival in China, Seollal in Korea, and celebrated in many other cultures — marks the start of a new year based on the lunisolar calendar.

The event, held Feb. 18, 2026, invited staff members to observe the new year through cultural foods, fortune scratchers and hands-on lantern decorating.

“Being part of APASA leadership at UC Davis Health makes moments like our Lunar New Year celebration especially meaningful to us,” APASA board members said in a joint statement. “Watching colleagues connect over culture, traditions and shared experiences reminded us how powerful community can be. Thank you to everyone who showed up and supported the event. Your presence and enthusiasm made it more than a celebration — it felt like family. We are grateful to be part of a team that continues to honor and uplift our diverse voices, and we are excited to continue building that momentum throughout the year.”
