Certified Nurses Day: Spotlight #1

Tuesday, March 19, is Certified Nurses Day, an annual event celebrating nurses who have earned and maintained the highest credentials in their specialty.
In honor of the upcoming event, we want to recognize some of our certified nurse heroes and why they chose to earn certification, and what it means to them.

Katie Verbick, BSN, RN, WCC “I first became wound care certified in the Burn ICU, where I worked for 12 years. It was an opportunity for me to be a specialist in my field and grow what I was doing daily. I have since moved to outpatient in Dermatology. Having my wound care certification gives me additional credibility among my patients and medical team, allowing me to provide better assessment and care for the wounds I care for.”

Tsurutani, MSN, RN, PHN, CBN “Obtaining and maintaining my specialty certification allows me to provide excellent care for my patients knowing I have achieved a recognized standard of knowledge and clinical expertise in the specialty of metabolic and bariatric surgery. It allows me to provide the specialty knowledge, resources and dedication for my patients, team members and clinic.”
