Meet the Principles of Community Showcase singers: Amycar Paula Thammavongsa
In anticipation of UC Davis Health's Principles of Community Showcase on March 3, organizers invited this year’s performers to share what the Principles of Community mean to them. This week's interview is with Amycar Paula Thammavongsa.
How do the Principles of Community resonate with you?
"I believe that the strength of humanity comes from the collective voice of people who value and care for one another beyond the norms of societal guard rails and expectations, especially when those norms fail to protect equity, dignity, or belonging. This is why I love the tenets of the Principles of Community."
What calls you to want to sing the National anthem, or perform for your colleagues?
"I became a Naturalized Citizen of the United States of America in 2011 and I did my oath taking ceremony in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I am lending my voice in this manner as a reminder that the people of all walks of life is what makes USA the land of the free and home of the brave."
Share one experience that recently brought you closer to the Principles of Community at work?
"I continue to advocate and speak up for my coworkers despite the personal drawback I experienced."
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
"I ranked in the top 20 out of thousands of test takers in the entire country during the 2004 Philippine Nursing Licensure Board Exam."
[End of interview]
Thank you Amycar Paula Thammavongsa for volunteering to sing at Principles of Community Showcase and for sharing your insights!

The event committee is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help make it a welcoming, inspiring space for everyone who attends. On March 1 and March 2, volunteers will help decorate and setup the event—the behind-the-scenes work that transforms a venue into a vibrant reflection of community, creativity, and shared values. Volunteer roles include decorating, set up, and various other tasks to help ensure the venue is organized and ready for guests. Flexible shifts are available, and all volunteers will receive guidance and support on site. If you’re interested in volunteering, please sign up through this link.
