Meet the Principles of Community Showcase singers: Janet Zarate

In anticipation of UC Davis Health's Principles of Community Showcase on March 3, organizers invited this year’s performers to share what the Principles of Community mean to them. This week's interview is with Janet Zarate.

How do the Principles of Community resonate with you?

"The Principles of Community resonates with me because I also believe that everyone should feel included, welcomed and have the opportunity to learn and show their skills within a safe community."

What calls you to want to sing the National Anthem, or perform for your colleagues?

"I always loved singing ever since I was like 7 or 8, I believe, and when I saw that announcement about an audition to sing the National Anthem, I thought it would be cool to try and audition. I have only sung the National Anthem in the high school choir as a group."

Share one experience that recently brought you closer to the Principles of Community.

I attended a Brazilian event not too long ago. I honestly forgot what it was called, but it was a workshop that involved capoeira, which was fun to learn."

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

"I also love photography, but I am currently taking a break from it."
