Nhi Phan honored with DAISY Award for extraordinary compassion, advocacy

(SACRAMENTO)

Nhi Phan, BSN, RN, from Davis 12, received a DAISY Award last week in recognition of her outstanding compassion and advocacy for patients. One patient described how Nhi went above and beyond to ensure their comfort and access to every available resource, both during their hospital stay and in preparations to return home.

Nhi Phan, BSN, RN, from Davis 12, received a DAISY Award.

From the nomination:

“Hi! I am nominating Nhi for a DAISY Award because she has been the best most caring, compassionate nurse during my stay. I came in for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome surgery and was only supposed to stay for one day, however due to unforeseen circumstances I ended up staying a while longer.

“Nhi always listened to my concerns, was willing to talk them through with me and made sure that I felt heard. She also went above and beyond, and recommended OT and PT come to see me when they weren’t originally going to see me, but because she listened to my concerns about having stairs at my house, she made sure they came to see me and that I was taken care of!

“When I was in severe pain that we couldn’t get under control, she advocated for me with my doctors. She made it possible for me to actually get sleep at night due to her advocating for me. She made me feel like I was truly cared for as a patient and been there to advocate for me every step of the way.  She truly is an exceptional nurse and deserves this and more. Thank you!”

Congratulations, Nhi, on your DAISY Award!

About the DAISY Award:
The DAISY Award is part of The DAISY Foundation, an international program dedicated to recognizing nursing excellence. Established by the Barnes family in memory of their son, Patrick, the award honors the exceptional, compassionate care Patrick received from nurses during his eight-week hospitalization. To express their gratitude, the family created the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, celebrating the remarkable and often unsung work nurses perform every day at the bedside.
