PRIDE ERG’s heartfelt donation drive for Q-Prom

(SACRAMENTO)

The PRIDE Employee Resource Group (ERG) at UC Davis Health recently wrapped up a highly successful donation drive in support of the Sacramento LGBT Community Center’s Q-Prom, a free, inclusive dance for LGBTQIA+ and allied youth ages 13-20.

Q-Prom is more than just a party; it’s a safe space for young people to celebrate authentically, free from judgment and stigma, and to experience the joy of prom that many may have missed due to bullying or exclusion.

Recognizing the importance of this event, the PRIDE ERG called on the UC Davis Health community to donate gently used and new formal wear in a variety of sizes. The drive sought gowns, sport jackets, dress shirts, shoes, and jewelry—ensuring every youth attending Q-Prom could find something special to wear and truly feel celebrated.

Donation bins were placed at convenient locations across the UC Davis Health campus, including the ASB Lobby, Cannery Triangle Parking Lot Lobby, PCC Lobby in Rancho Cordova, and the Blaisdell Medical Library in the Education Building. The response was overwhelming, with staff, faculty, and students coming together to fill the bins with beautiful items, all destined to help queer youth live out their prom dreams.

The drive ran through September 22, and the generosity shown by the UC Davis Health community was a testament to the spirit of inclusion and support that defines the PRIDE ERG and its allies.

“We are deeply grateful for the incredible generosity shown by everyone who donated to the Q-Prom drive. Every gown, jacket, and pair of shoes represents a moment of joy and belonging for a young person in our community. Thank you for helping us make Q-Prom a truly unforgettable celebration for Sacramento’s LGBTQ+ youth,” said Evan Priestley, Chair, PRIDE ERG.

This donation drive not only provided essential items for Q-Prom but also sent a powerful message of acceptance and support to LGBTQ+ youth in Sacramento. The PRIDE ERG’s efforts, combined with the Sacramento LGBT Community Center’s commitment, ensured that every attendee could shine on their special night.
