Sacramento campus traffic update: Central Utility Plant Annex construction
To support the exciting expansion of our Sacramento Campus—including the new 900,000-square-foot California Tower and 40,000-square-foot Central Utility Plant Annex—we’re making temporary traffic changes to ensure safety and minimize disruption during construction. The Annex building will house the required utilities for future projects like the California Tower, with approximately 2,000 linear feet of required underground utilities across campus.

Major Project Impacts
Much of the work will begin on Aug. 18 and includes the:
- Construction of underground utility loop and Central Utility Plant Annex (ongoing)

- Implementation of one-way traffic loop around campus

- Start of lane closures on X and 48th streets

- Temporary relocation of shuttle stops and closure of ASB/Education lot
One-Way Traffic Loop
The implementation of a new one-way traffic loop includes the following adjustments:
- X Street (45th to 48th): Motorists will travel eastbound only. Former westbound lanes will carry eastbound traffic. Pedestrians must use the north sidewalk.

- 48th Street (X to Y): Motorists will travel southbound only. Former northbound lanes will carry southbound traffic. Pedestrians must use the east sidewalk.

- 45th Street (2nd Avenue to Y): This will be closed to the public. Emergency vehicles, shuttles, buses and the Cancer Center valet may continue utilizing northbound lanes. Pedestrian access remains open.
Additional Impacts
Shuttle Stops | Temporarily relocated to:
- 48X Complex drop-off
- 45th Street in front of the Cancer Center

Comprehensive Cancer Center:
- Drop-off and cell phone waiting areas will be unavailable
- Valet service remains available
ASB/Education Building Lot: Temporarily closed (accessed via X Street)
X Street Pedestrian Access:
- Crosswalks at Parking Structures 4 and 5 will be closed
- South sidewalk near the Education Building will be closed (building exits remain open)
- North sidewalk remains open

Why This Matters
These changes are part of our commitment to serving the growing Sacramento community with state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure. Your patience and cooperation are appreciated as we build for the future.
