Several actions are being taken in response to the I-DARE Survey

(SACRAMENTO)

The I-DARE (Inclusion, Diversity, Anti-racism, and Equity) Initiative is a beacon of transformation, driving UC Davis Health’s commitment to creating a more inclusive, equitable, and diverse community. Led by dedicated task forces across the health system, I-DARE’s comprehensive action plan has initiated a series of strategic interventions designed to embed diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) deeply into UC Davis Health’s culture, research practices, and community engagement efforts. Through these initiatives, I-DARE has laid a solid foundation for sustainable progress, making actionable DEI commitments that catalyze real change.

One major initiative being executed – because of the I-DARE survey feedback results – is the development of biweekly cultural and linguistic competence workshops. These workshops aim to enhance the health system’s ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations, ensuring everyone feels understood and respected. This initiative fosters a more inclusive environment within UC Davis Health, improving the quality of care and research by embracing a wide range of perspectives and experiences. Additionally, I-DARE participants have implemented guidelines to ensure research studies are designed inclusively, significantly increasing community participation in clinical trials and enriching the scientific inquiry with diverse viewpoints.

Another key aspect of the action plan focuses on nurturing future clinicians and leaders through internships and scholarships for learners and trainees. Investing in the next generation of clinicians and researchers embeds equity and inclusion into UC Davis Health’s academic and research endeavors. Moreover, I-DARE participants’ commitment extends well beyond the Sacramento campus through strategic partnerships with local organizations aimed at addressing health disparities. Initiatives such as community health fairs and targeted health education programs for underserved populations illustrate a holistic approach to DEI, demonstrating tangible benefits for the broader community.

Through these specific initiatives, the I-DARE process has not only transformed UC Davis Health’s internal culture but also made a significant positive impact on the surrounding community. The biweekly workshops, inclusive research practices, and community engagement efforts are just a few examples of how I-DARE participants are actively working towards a more inclusive and equitable future. This story of commitment, collaboration, and tangible change reflects UC Davis Health’s commitment to DEI integration.
