Vice Chancellor Rosenblatt launches nationwide search for next School of Medicine Dean

(SACRAMENTO)

Vice Chancellor of Human Health Sciences Mark I. Rosenblatt announced today he has initiated a national search for the next dean of the UC Davis School of Medicine, as Dean Susan Murin’s five-year term concludes on June 30.

“We are immensely grateful that Dean Murin stepped up when we needed her during the leadership transition at UC Davis Health,” said Vice Chancellor Rosenblatt. “She has led our nationally ranked medical school with distinction for the last five years.”

The dean recruitment advisory committee includes faculty, staff, leaders from both UC Davis and UC Davis Health, and a School of Medicine student representative.

UC Davis Health has selected the executive recruitment firm Spencer Stuart to manage the national search.

Murin has led the School of Medicine since November 2021 and is a professor and clinician in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. She will return to the School of Medicine faculty upon the conclusion of her term as dean.

Under Murin’s leadership, the School of Medicine achieved full eight-year accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. She launched several critical initiatives to achieve efficiency, consistency and equity, as well as historic growth in research funding. Murin also oversaw the expansion of the medical school’s pathway programs and branch campus efforts that have strengthened the school as a national leader in physician workforce training innovation.

During her 30-year tenure at UC Davis Health, she has held numerous leadership positions. Before serving as dean, she was vice dean for clinical affairs and executive director of the UC Davis Medical Group.
