Video: Peer responders make talking about care easier

See how peer support builds a safer care community

(SACRAMENTO)

The UC Davis Health Support U Peer Responder Program is a safe and confidential program that provides peer-to-peer support to all members of the UC Davis Health community who have experienced trauma or stress from an adverse care experience.

Michelle Linenberger, Support U program director, said, “In the past 16 years, the UC Davis Health Support U Peer Responder Program has grown from 16 to more than 1,400 trained peer responders. These individuals, who are skilled in psychological first aid, provide confidential support, helping colleagues access resources and reducing isolation across the health system.”

Support U trained peer responders provide:

  • Confidential listening
  • Safe environments to discuss stresses and experiences
  • Emotional support
  • Compassion and understanding
  • Respectful boundaries
  • Partnerships to cope while strengthening resilience
