Philosophy of Care

I do my best to treat patients with the same care I wish my family to have. I serve as a medical advisor to my patients trying to explain why we should do the things I am suggesting. Ultimately the decision is theirs to make.  Sometimes patients come to me because they are frustrated with the medical system. Lending a comforting ear can be all the medicine that is required.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Southard is an interventional cardiologist with an interest in cardiovascular medicine. He sees patients in clinic, in the hospital and in consultation. He is the director of the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement Program and has been the principle investigator in many research related valve trials.

In addition his research interests focus on expanding care to patients in underserved areas and he is working with our Telemedicine program to continue cardiology consultation in that regard.

He also has an interest in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and was the principle investigator for the first ever cardiovascular stem cell trial here at UC Davis

Research/Academic Interests
