The process maps below walk through the steps the research administrator is responsible for or assists with at each stage in the research administration process.
Pre-Award Management Process. This process map demonstrates the steps to take when identifying funding opportunities, preparing the proposal submission and what to do after the proposal has been submitted. Pre-Award Management (PDF)
Post-Award Management Process. This process map identifies the steps to take after a proposal is awarded, from setting up an award to monthly monitoring to closeout. Post-Award Management (PDF)
Proposal Components. This process map is a subset of the pre-award management process and details the components that make up a proposal. When assembling your research proposal, look for the proposal templates available by funding agency. Each proposal is different and you should follow the requirements of the funding agency you're applying to. Please note that many of the links in the process map are NIH-specific and are meant to serve as examples of potential application proposal components. Click on "Proposal Templates by Funding Agency" to review which components are required for your proposal based on the specific sponsor. Proposal Components (PDF)
Subawards. The subaward process involves different steps across the lifecycle of the award. This process map walks through the steps to prepare a proposal with subawards, send a subaward request to SPO, monitor a subaward, subaward amendment requests and closing out subawards. Subawards (PDF)
