Computer Detection of Autism Signs Using Video

Working together with students and professors in Engineering and Computer Science, we are testing a new way to use video to look for early signs of autism.

We are developing a type of artificial intelligence in which computer programs “learn” how to recognize signs of autism in video.

In the future, this could be used to create new phone apps that allow parents who may be worried about their child to check for signs of autism.

This would be a low-cost way to screen for autism in very young children.

It would also help parents get past long waiting lists to get their child evaluated.

This would help them get treatment sooner, when it can have the biggest impact.
