Annual Spotlight on Early Career Investigators to be held April 28, 2022
Save the date for the 16th annual Spotlight on Early Career Investigators: A Cancer Research Mini-Symposium April 28, 2022. The annual event highlights cancer-related research being conducted by students, including post-doctoral students, research residents, and fellows in research.
This year’s event is back in person at UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Goodnight Auditorium, from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please click here to register.
The Spotlight gives early-stage investigators a chance to meet experienced investigators, learn about potential research opportunities early in their career, and gain valuable career insights through presentations and networking.
“Events like these provide our junior colleagues and scholars with much-needed opportunities to hone their presentation and networking skills,” said UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center Director Primo “Lucky” Lara, Jr. “The event also allows for connection to faculty, which is why faculty attendance is critical.”
This year, six early-stage investigators will be selected as symposium presenters, with others offering poster presentations. Criteria used to judge the applications include scientific innovation, significance, and ultimate potential for clinical impact. To submit abstracts for poster and oral presentations, please click on the registration site.
Shehnaz Hussain, associate director for population sciences at UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer, will provide the keynote address, which is titled “My Path in Cancer Epidemiology Forged by Mentorship, Opportunity, and Serendipity.
Hussain will discuss her research focused on the intersection of infections and cancer. She plans to contextualize how her research and career trajectory have been influenced by supportive mentors, seizing unusual or unexpected opportunities, and sometimes just being the right person at the right place at the right time.
