Integrated AP/CP Training
The AP/CP residency program is fully integrated. The Department strives to achieve an optimal balance between service and education. Rotations are primarily at UC Davis Medical Center with other core rotations at the VA Northern California Health Care System at Mather Field. Residents have the flexibility of creating their own schedules. The curriculum is as follows:
Anatomic Pathology – 25 months
- Bootcamp (“Intro to Residency”) – 1 month
- Surgical Pathology sub-specialty UC Davis Medical Center – 9-10 months
- Frozen/Renal UC Davis Medical Center - 1 month
- Autopsy Sacramento County Coroner’s Office – 3 months (includes forensics and neuropathology)
- Cytology UC Davis Medical Center – 2 months
- Surgical Pathology at the VA Hospital in Mather – 7-8 months
- Dermatopathology UC Davis Medical Center – 1 month
Clinical Pathology – 18 months (All UC Davis Medical Center)
- BloodBank/Transfusion Medicine – 4 months
- Hematology/immunology – 5 months
- Clinical Chemistry/Toxicology – 3 months
- Microbiology – 2-3 months
- Molecular pathology – 2 months
- Lab Management/Informatics (PGY 3-4) – 1-2 months
Electives – 5 months
- Customized based on trainee needs and career goals to include any of the following:
- Additional subspecialty training in AP
- Additional CP exposure
- Mentored Research rotations
