The UC Davis Children’s Hospital Media and Child Health Education Program provides media advocacy training for pediatric residents. Media advocacy training is integrated into the Community Health and Advocacy rotation. For residents who are interested, the program works with residents to identify areas of media health advocacy interest, develop appropriate messaging, and provide media appearance opportunities.

Ivan Marquez, M.D., Class of 2022, was a leader in advancing health equity throughout residency. He published an op-ed on how the COVID-19 pandemic highlights the need for California to invest in farmworker health. He frequently spoke with community groups and gave interviews to Spanish-language television and radio about health topics such as COVID-19 and formula shortage. He received an AAP CATCH (American Academy of Pediatrics Community Access to Child Health) grant for his scholarly project on promoting childhood literacy and anti-bias development through Reach out and Read at his continuity clinic at the Sacramento Native American Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). He presented his UC Davis Pediatric Grand Rounds on “The Effect of Geographic Managed Care on Youth Access to Medi-Cal in Sacramento.” Dr. Marquez is currently a community pediatrician and National Health Service Corp member advancing health equity with the County of Monterey Health Department.
