We appreciate your interest in the UC Davis Urologic Surgery Residency Program, where we combine rigorous clinical training, advanced surgical experience and robust research opportunities to prepare the next generation of urologists. Our five-year program emphasizes hands-on learning, mentorship from nationally recognized faculty and exposure to a wide spectrum of adult and pediatric urologic conditions.

Mission

The UC Davis Urologic Surgery Residency provides comprehensive clinical training, progressive surgical experience and research opportunities to develop skilled, confident and compassionate urologists for academic and community careers.

Program Aims

Our goal is to train outstanding urologic surgeons and support each resident in achieving their career aspirations.

Our program is committed to:

• Providing a comprehensive education across all areas of urology
• Encouraging research opportunities for all residents, particularly those pursuing academic careers
• Offering progressive clinical exposure and increasing responsibility throughout the five-year residency program
• Ensuring residents gain competence in treating patients with all urologic conditions, including the subspecialty areas of urologic oncology, neurourology/reconstruction, endourology/laparoscopy, robotic surgery, impotence/infertility and pediatrics
• Preparing residents to successfully complete board examinations and practice independently in urology
• Supporting residents pursuing further subspecialty training by providing research opportunities aligned with their career goals

Accreditation

The UC Davis Department of Urologic Surgery is accredited by the American Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for 13 residency positions.

The program is designed to provide progressive clinical responsibility and extensive surgical experience throughout the five-year program. In the final year, residents serve as chief residents, functioning with greater autonomy and taking a leadership role in supervising and mentoring junior colleagues.

Residents’ Research Program

During their fifth year, all residents have four months dedicated to research. They may select a mentor, develop an independent project or join an existing study. The research rotation is designed to provide hands-on experience, foster critical evaluation of scientific literature and cultivate scholarly productivity. Historically, residents have produced four to 10 manuscripts during this time, an experience that contributes to the high rate of graduates securing competitive fellowship positions.
