All faculty are invited to the Women in Medicine and Health Sciences (WIMHS) Annual Faculty Retreat and Fall Welcome!

Faculty Retreat 12:30-5:30 p.m.

A career development opportunity featuring a keynote address, engaging breakout sessions, and a panel discussion on leadership in academic medicine.

Fall Welcome 5:30-7:30 p.m.

    Shannon Udovic-Constant, M.D.

    Shannon Udovic-Constant, M.D. is a visionary medical leader and fierce advocate for the advancement of women in medicine. She is an award-winning board-certified general pediatrician, Immediate Past President of the California Medical Association, and founder and CEO of Physician Women Rising, a community and coaching platform dedicated to helping women in medicine smash barriers, seize leadership roles they deserve, and create lasting impact.

    Susan D. Brown, Ph.D., FSBM, FABMR, is a behavioral scientist and Professor of Internal Medicine. Over nearly 20 years, her NIH-funded research has focused on interventions for diabetes and cardiovascular disease prevention, particularly in diverse maternal populations. She is Faculty Co-Lead for Workforce Development in the Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC); serves as a standing NIH study section member; and leads initiatives dedicated to mentoring early career researchers.

    Brittany Dugger, Ph.D., is a Professor in the department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Throughout her two-decade career, she has led, enabled, and enhanced many cross-disciplinary projects, resulting in over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and numerous federally, state, and foundation grants as well as receiving philanthropic gifts.

    Victoria Dimitriades, M.D., FAAAAI, FCIS, is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and the Division Chief for Pediatric Allergy/Immunology and Rheumatology. She has a clinical emphasis on Immunodeficiencies and Immune Dysregulation disorders. She is a WIMHS Department Liaison and has an interest in clinical mentoring and faculty support through all stages of advancement.

    Archana Maniar M.D., FIDSA, is a graduate of UC Davis Medical School Class of 2000 and a Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at UC Davis. Her first novel, Dry Spells, was published internationally in 2024. Her second novel, The Lost Photograph, will be released in September 2026. She is interested in the intersection between creativity and career, with an emphasis on the practice of medicine.

    Brandee Waite, M.D., is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of California Davis School of Medicine. In addition, she holds further sub-specialty medical board certifications in both Sports Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine. Waite serves as the Medical Director for UC Davis Health Sports Medicine Clinics, Director of Lifestyle and Longevity Medicine Innovation and Vice Chair of Wellness and Community Engagement.

    Angela Jarman, M.D., MPH, is an Associate Professor and the Director of Sex and Gender in Emergency Medicine at UC Davis. Jarman is an NIH-funded researcher through the Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women's Health program; her research focuses primarily on sex differences in venous thromboembolism, more specifically pulmonary embolism diagnostics.

    Marcia (Marcy) Faustin, M.D., FAAFP, is a dual-boarded Family and Sports Medicine Physician and Associate Clinical Professor at the University of California, Davis, with joint appointments in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Family and Community Medicine. She is dedicated to the education and mentorship of learners from undergraduate to fellows.

    Emily Andrada, M.D., is a Professor of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at UC Davis School of Medicine, where she oversees pediatric emergency medicine education for the Emergency Medicine residency and directs the Area of Scholarly Concentration in Medical Education for medical students. A UCLA and UC Davis-trained physician with fellowship training at Brown University, she is also a leader in reimagining active learning in the pre-clerkship medical curriculum.

    Florette Kimberly (Kim) Hazard, M.D., is the Chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Her clinical and research interests focus on pediatric rare tumors, developmental disorders, gastrointestinal pathology, and improving diagnostics and treatments for children.

    Ruth Shim, M.D., MPH, is the Luke and Grace Kim Professor in Cultural Psychiatry and Vice Chair for Faculty Development in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She is a nationally recognized leader in mental health policy, health equity, faculty development, and academic leadership.

    Wendy Campana, Ph.D., is Chair of the Department of Cell Biology and Human Anatomy. She leads an interdisciplinary research program investigating how peripheral nerve glia, specifically Schwann cells, contribute to the underlying mechanisms of painful peripheral neuropathy.

    Clara Paik, M.D., is the Vice Chair of Clinical Operations in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She also serves as Chief of the UC Davis Health Medical Staff. She specializes in gynecology and the management of chronic pelvic pain, with a professional focus on improving women's health through comprehensive, patient-centered care.

Option 2: Equity in the Academic Medicine: Surviving and Thriving in a Biased World
Facilitators: Angela Jarman, M.D., M.P.H., and Marcia Faustin, M.D.
Description: Designed for early-career faculty, this session will focus on uncovering implicit biases and their impacts on your success. We will discuss building support systems, including mentoring and sponsorship relationships, and strategies to combat bias in order to position oneself for successful advancement.
Option 3: Mean, Direct, or Just Effective? Navigating Gendered Feedback and Leading Anyway

Description: Navigating bias and systemic challenges by re-framing feedback, responding strategically, and advocating for yourself within clinical and non-clinical environments.

    Medical Microbiology and Immunology organized an engaging panel discussion designed to connect students and postdocs with distinguished leaders from both academia and industry.

    The OB/GYN Department Book Club gathered for an engaging discussion of Why We Sleep. The afternoon brought together colleagues in a relaxed setting to reflect on the science of sleep and its practical implications for both personal well-being and professional life.

    Oto Does Pilates - An Exercise in Wellness

    Women in Otolaryngology (WIO) and WIMHS hosted a dynamic Lagree class at Instaphysique. This low-impact, high-intensity resistance workout is designed to strengthen core, improve posture, and help prevent injury for surgeons. "We enjoyed getting stronger together in our matching UC Davis WIO grip socks and celebrated surviving class with iced lattes at the Mill!"
