Christine S. Cocanour named associate vice chancellor for the Office of Academic Personnel
Christine S. Cocanour, a distinguished professor in the Department of Surgery, has been named the associate vice chancellor for the Office of Academic Personnel. She has served as interim associate vice chancellor since July 2024. She previously served as the associate dean for academic advancements.

Since joining the School of Medicine in 2006, Cocanour has held several leadership positions, including program director for the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship and medical director of the UC Davis Medical Center Surgical Intensive Care Unit. She also served as the quality and safety chair for the Department of Surgery and the Department’s National Surgical Quality Improvement Program champion.
Her research focuses on improving the care of injured patients or those requiring surgical critical care, with an emphasis on improving pain management, reducing unplanned intubations and providing best practice guidelines for trauma surgeons.
Cocanour has also held prominent roles regionally and nationally, including serving as the president of the Western Trauma Association, the president of the Northern California Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, and the chair of the Central Committee of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma’s Performance Improvement and Patient Safety and Best Practices Guidelines committees.
