UC Davis Health among founding members of global AI-sharing network

(SACRAMENTO)

UC Davis Health is one of eight founding members of a global data-sharing network that aims to drive AI innovation in health care and ultimately discover better ways to diagnose, treat, and even prevent disease for patients.

On April 16, the Mayo Clinic named the eight founding members of the Mayo Clinic Platform Connect. In addition to UC Davis Health, members include Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein (Sao Paulo), the Mayo Clinic, Mercy (St. Louis), Seoul National University Hospital, Sheba Medical Center (Ramat Gan, Israel), SingHealth, and the University Health Network (Toronto).

Large amounts of data made possible through such a global network will give scientists a wealth of information for research, including for rare, serious, and complex diseases. By establishing a framework of connected data, clinicians will have expanded access to the knowledge of other experts, specialists, and researchers.

On another front, as generative artificial intelligence becomes more prevalent in health care, UC Davis Health, along with the rest of the University of California health systems, is leading VALID AI, a collective of health systems and partners that will explore uses, pitfalls, and best practices for Gen AI in health care and research, and accelerate execution and real-world evidence.

One of the most intriguing topics in health care for 2024 is the use of artificial intelligence in patient care and throughout the workplace. In the accompanying video, UC Davis Health CEO David Lubarsky and chief AI Advisor Dennis Chornenky shed light on the latest trends with AI, the relationship between human intelligence and artificial intelligence, some of the challenges facing the use of AI in health care, and how it can improve healthy equity and outcomes.
