Philosophy of Care

Having gone through the journey of cancer treatment with her late father over the past several years, Dr. Hamdan strives to treat every patient, like she wanted for her father to be treated. Dr. Hamdan believes in the active voice and role patients should have in their care and encourages her patients to actively engage in their journey towards healthy kidneys and a healthy body, mind and spirit.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Hamdan graduated medical school from the University of Jordan with Honors in 2002. She completed an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Arizona in Tucson and a Nephrology Fellowship from UC Davis in 2011. She has been practicing Nephrology in the Greater Sacramento area since then. She served as the Medical Director of Fresenius Lincoln dialysis unit before joining UC Davis.

Dr. Hamdan is interested in the care of patients with chronic kidney disease, across all stages of kidney disease. She is particularly interested in lifestyle modifications such as plant based diet and exercise in preventing and delaying kidney disease. Dr. Hamdan is also interested in the impact of social determinants of heath such as food insecurity on patients with kidney disease. Dr. Hamdan is currently working to earn a Masters of Public Health at UC Berkeley to allow her to engage in effective research to help prevent and delay the progression of kidney disease.

Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Hamdan is working on research to understand the impact of COVID-19 infection on longterm kidney function. Dr. Hamdan is interested in the importance of lifestyle modifications such as plant based diets and exercise in delaying the progression of kidney disease. Dr. Hamdan is also interested in the role of social determinants of health such as food insecurity and lack of stable living circumstances in development and progression of kidney disease.
