Philosophy of Care

I believe that communication is an essential aspect of providing excellent patient care. I encourage my patients to engage in their own care through collaborative decision-making. I strive to coordinate with a patient’s other healthcare providers to provide excellent care. Kidney disease is a challenging disease that affects multiple aspects of a patient’s life and I work with patients to holistically approach their care to focus on their overall wellbeing.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Kapa is a general nephrologist offering high quality care for adults with kidney disease. He cares for patients with chronic kidney disease in the ambulatory clinic, critical care and hospital settings, as well as in-center and home dialysis patients. He cares for patients with hypertension, electrolyte imbalance, glomerulonephritis, and acute kidney injury. He has a special interest in health policy advocacy, point-of-care ultrasound, pregnancy and lactation, and medical education.

Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Kapa’s research interests include progression of chronic kidney disease, glomerulonephritis, acute kidney injury, clinical aspects of kidney replacement therapy (dialysis), and women’s health in relation to kidney disease (pregnancy and lactation). He is also interested in local and national health care policy issues that affect patients with kidney disease and serves as an active advocate for policy change that improves the quality of care for patients with kidney disease. He also has interest in telenephrology and its ability to expand care to underserved populations.
