PURPOSE
To outline procedures that are in place before and during medical student school-sponsored events pertaining to the availability of alcohol.

POLICY
At all medical student events, students and their guests must act responsibly when representing the school, and they must follow all procedures outlined below.

PROCEDURE

  1. For medical student events where alcoholic beverages are intended to be served or consumed, an electronic request must be submitted to the Office of Student Development 90 days prior to the scheduled event and approval for the event must be obtained at least 60 days prior to the event.
  2. The Office of Student Development will apply for approval from UC Davis Health. Once approval from UC Davis Health is received UC Davis Campus Police approval will be sought.
  3. The Office of Student Development will then apply for approval from the UC Davis Campus Police. Once approval from UC Davis Campus Police is received county approval will be sought.
  4. Approval also needs to be obtained from the County. The Office of Student Development will complete the county application, but a representative organizing the event is responsible for paying the fee and taking the application to the County Office for approval. The approved county form must be delivered to Office of Student Development at least 30 days prior to the event.  
  5. A staff member representative, who is responsible for the event, needs to be present at all times during the function.
  6. Alcoholic beverages will not be consumed by individuals under 21 years of age. Non-alcoholic beverages will be available in sufficient quantities.
  7. UC Davis Health Security is required at all events with alcohol permits. The Office of Student Development will arrange for the presence of security; however, any additional charges that may be incurred as a result of this are the responsibility of the organizing student body.
  8. Approved events can be open to members of the UC Davis community and invited guests.
  9. Violations of the policy may lead to disciplinary action, including Dismissal from the School.
