POLICY

Definition

Emergency: an incident or event taking place on or adjacent to the UC Davis Sacramento Campus, or at a regional affiliated site, that threatens life or safety and requires immediate action.

  1. The School follows UC Davis, Policy 390-12, Change in Campus Operating Status, for emergency management and security concerns and applies them to Sacramento campus operations.
  2. The School follows UC Davis Policy 390-15, Emergency Alert and Mass Notification for emergent notifications.

PROCEDURE
If you are the first person to encounter a situation that meets the above definition of emergency, call 9-1-1, or 916-734-2555, to contact the UC Davis Health Police Department, and if appropriate, the Office of Medical Education Dean on Call at 916-734-4100.

Pre-Clerkship Students

  1. If there is an emergency at the School requiring adjustments to course sessions (e.g., active learning, clinical skills, etc.), students will be notified through email and the Learning Management System (LMS).
  2. Canceled sessions may be rescheduled. Faculty responsible for the missed session, in consultation with the Course Directors and the Office of Medical Education, will determine whether the session is essential or can be sufficiently covered in the courses' recorded lecture(s), textbooks, other assigned reading(s), or alternate asynchronous methods.
  3. If a missed session is determined to have been essential, every attempt will be made to reschedule the session. Announcements of the rescheduled date and time for the missed session(s) will be made through email and the LMS.
  4. Students will be responsible for the material associated with the missed session.

Clerkship and Post-Clerkship Students

  • Students on clinical rotations are viewed as essential to the health care team and will continue to participate in patient care unless otherwise notified.
