POLICY
Please refer to the UC Davis, Policy 390-12, Change in Campus Operating Status (390-12), for all emergency management and security concerns.

PROCEDURE
These curricular procedures will be followed in accordance with the standard operating procedures outlined in the UC Davis, Policy 390-12, Change in Campus Operating Status (390-12):

Pre-Clerkship Students

  1. If the University is closed, all classroom academic sessions are cancelled; clinical experiences may be cancelled or modified, based on the unique circumstances. Cancelled sessions may not always be rescheduled. Faculty responsible for the missed sessions (in consultation with the Course IORs and the Office of Medical Education) will determine whether the material is or can be sufficiently covered in the course resources material, recorded lecture archives, or textbooks.
  2. If a missed session is determined to have been "essential," every attempt will be made to reschedule the session. Announcements will be made to the class regarding the rescheduled date/time for the missed session(s) through available means (e.g., listserv, Learning Management System course announcements, social media, etc.)
  3. Students will be responsible for and tested on the material that can be found in the course resources (e.g., syllabus, slides, textbook, etc.) that accompany the missed session.

Clerkship and Post-Clerkship Students

  1. If the University is closed, academic sessions, clinical experiences and examinations may be cancelled or modified depending on the unique circumstances. Because students on clinical rotations are viewed as essential to the health care team, the default expectation is that students will continue to participate in patient care.
  2. Students will receive regular communications from the Office of Medical Education and/or clerkship IOR as to the detailed plan for academic sessions and clinical experiences, including any modifications and plans for administering examinations.
