PURPOSE
To describe the process the School of Medicine (i.e., the School) will follow in adopting, revising, and retiring academic policies that may affect more than one educational unit.  Unit specific policies and procedures must be consistent with the School and UC Davis policies.

4.6 Responsibility for Medical School Policies                                                                     

POLICY

  1. All policies pertaining to the educational mission in use at the School that may affect more than one educational unit shall be reviewed and approved by a workgroup on educational policies.
  2. The ad hoc workgroup shall consist of the chairs (or delegates of the chairs) of the School’s Admissions Committee, the Committee on Educational Policy, and the Committee on Student Promotions, in addition to the respective Deans responsible for admissions, curriculum, and student affairs.
  3. Requests for multi-educational unit policy adoption, revision, or retirement shall be submitted to the workgroup by contacting the Faculty Executive Committee via email (fec@health.ucdavis.edu).
  4. Any member of the School community may submit a proposal. 
  5. The Faculty Executive Committee shall make a final determination on the proposal.

PROCEDURE
The workgroup shall:

  1. Review a proposal for consistency with other MD Program policies of the School.
  2. Circulate the proposal to any other constituency whose input is deemed necessary or helpful.
  3. Obtain legal review as appropriate.
  4. Recommend to the Faculty Executive Committee an action on the proposal such as to table, approve, not approve, or approve with certain changes.
