Ronald McDonald House is a home away from home for families traveling at least 30 miles for their child’s medical treatment. Family members have their own bedrooms and bathrooms and share common kitchens, living and laundry facilities. Guests come to the Ronald McDonald House through a referral system. Referrals are accepted from social workers at all of the local hospitals, emergency rooms and doctor’s offices. About three to five days before arrival, families will receive a call from the social worker’s or doctor’s office confirming their stay if a room is available. Pediatric patients and their families may be eligible for low-cost lodging near the hospital in the Kiwanis Family House. Residency in the Kiwanis Family House is determined by the Department of Clinical Social Services and is by referral only. Call Social Services at 916-734-2583 for more information.
