School of Medicine commencement this Friday

(SACRAMENTO)

The UC Davis School of Medicine will hold its 51st commencement ceremony Friday – the first time graduation is celebrated in person since 2019.

The event at the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts on the UC Davis campus is by invitation only (students have been allotted a limited number of tickets).

A livestream is available beginning at 10 a.m. Commencement will also be broadcast live on the School of Medicine’s Facebook page.

A total of 126 students will receive their diplomas and hoods. In UC Davis fashion, students will walk across the stage accompanied by two loved ones who encouraged them through school.

“I am greatly looking forward to joining our students, their families and our faculty as we celebrate our graduates’ extraordinary hard work and accomplishments,” said School of Medicine Interim Dean Susan Murin. “It is an honor to celebrate my first commencement as interim dean with this year’s talented and resilient graduating class.”

The commencement speaker is Sharad Jain, the associate dean for students and a professor of medicine.

Commencement the past two years was a virtual event, with students participating on Zoom from their homes where they were hooded by parents and partners.
