Quitting tobacco use is the most important thing you can do to improve your health now.

Tobacco use has a negative impact on many aspects of your health. Related to your care with the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, specific risks include:

  • Higher risk of anesthetic complications
  • Poorer surgical recovery and healing
  • Risk of head and neck cancer and future recurrence
  • Reduced response to cancer therapies
  • Risk of recurrent ear infection, sinusitis, and obstructive sleep apnea in adults and children exposed to second or third hand tobacco smoke

UC Davis Health and the care team within the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery are committed to helping patients quit tobacco use to reduce these risks. We offer one-on-one consultation with a certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist who can work with patients towards tobacco cessation. We also assist patients with access to resources to the UC Davis Health tobacco cessation program and the California Smokers’ Helpline, 1-800-NO-BUTTS.

If you are thinking about quitting tobacco use, please ask your care provider to help during your visit.
