Living in Sacramento

The city of Sacramento is in the midst of a cultural, culinary and construction renaissance with multiple development projects in progress or recently completed throughout the city.  There are numerous museums, performance spaces, retail shops, cafes, breweries, wineries and restaurants, all within walking and biking distance in the midtown and downtown districts.  Sacramento provides the feel of both an urban center and a picturesque city filled with multiple river access points, parks, bike trials, and tree-lined streets.  Sacramento ranks third, after Vancouver and Singapore, as the city with the most trees per capita.

There are many apartment, condo, and housing rental options available in midtown and downtown, close to the UC Davis Medical Center and the Sacramento County Jail.  Larger rental housing is available in the nearby neighborhoods of Land Park, Curtis Park, Tahoe Park, East Sacramento and Natomas.  Apartment and condominium rental costs average between $1,200 - $2,000 per month depending on unit size and location.  Rental information can be found on the UC Davis Health Housing Notices page.

Fellows will all need an automobile for travel to Napa State Hospital and the Sacramento County Main Jail one day per week.   All forensic didactic seminars are held at the Division of Psychiatry and Law office on UC Davis Medical Center campus, located approximately 3.5 miles from downtown Sacramento.  Many of the court-ordered and private forensic case evaluations will be held at the Sacramento County Jail or at numerous law offices located in midtown, downtown and adjacent districts.
