Day 2 of POEP focuses on the management of complex maternal conditions and high-risk scenarios. Participants will explore cardiac disease in pregnancy, including risk factor identification and accurate documentation, and review care strategies for patients with substance use disorder using PRN medication protocols and the COWS algorithm.
The session covers maternal code response through the Code MAMA protocol, emphasizing key differences from standard ACLS procedures. A hands-on NRP drill reinforces the 8th edition algorithm and decision-making between CPAP and PPV. Learners will also apply the CMQCC postpartum hemorrhage algorithm and checklist to quantify blood loss, and review the maternal sepsis algorithm, recognizing early warning signs. The day concludes with case studies and fetal strip review to guide appropriate labor interventions and oxytocin management. This day enhances clinical preparedness for critical obstetrical situations.
