Day 4 of POEP emphasizes critical thinking, simulation-based learning, and high-risk obstetric emergencies. The day begins with a severe range blood pressure simulation focusing on the preeclampsia algorithm, first-line medications, and emergency management steps. Participants will explore the signs, symptoms, and treatment strategies for placental abruption, followed by an interactive Mega Code session reinforcing key code response steps and closed-loop communication. Case study presentations and fetal heart tracing reviews offer real-world application of decision-making and clinical reasoning.
Additional sessions cover diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), including lab interpretation and management approaches. The day wraps up with EFM strip review and a fun, high-yield Jeopardy game covering sepsis, postpartum hemorrhage, preeclampsia, and DKA. This capstone session sharpens clinical judgment and prepares staff for high-acuity perinatal scenarios.
