Women In Medicine and Health Sciences (WIMHS) is proud to announce the development of the “WIMHS Departmental Liaison” program in 2019 in order to better support women’s careers in academic health across the 19 clinical and 7 academic departments at the UC Davis School of Medicine and the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. The position is open to faculty members from any series at any rank, though mid-career faculty are especially encouraged.

Role of the WIMHS Departmental Liaison

  • Identify department specific needs to guide WIMHS initiatives
  • Inform the department of upcoming WIMHS activities
  • Identify collaborative opportunities between home department and WIMHS (co-sponsored speakers etc.)
  • Represent WIMHS at department level for faculty recruitment

Time Commitment (2 Year Appointment)

  • Inform WIMHS Director of upcoming recruitments, collaborative opportunities etc.
  • Attend quarterly group committee meetings with WIMHS Director and other WIMHS Liaisons
  • Attend 2-3 WIMHS sponsored events per year, including the annual WIMHS Fall Welcome
  • Prepare an annual (1 page) summary of department level activities (see Pilot Award description below)

Anticipated Benefits of Participation

  • Service credit for WIMHS Departmental Liaison Committee
  • Career development opportunities – WIMHS will provide an annual career development retreat for all departmental liaisons (tentatively scheduled for early June 2019)
  • Departmental liaisons in FY2018/19 will receive a pilot award of $500-1,000 to support WIMHS-relevant activities at the department level. Examples of approved expenses include: sponsoring a speaker or workshop, social networking/cohort building events, career development opportunities, support for data collection etc.
