Caregiver Consultation

More than 40 million people in the United States provide care for aging family members or friends. The Caregiver Consultation service, offered by the Healthy Aging Clinic in partnership with the UC Davis Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, provides education and coaching to support caregivers of older adults.

Are You a Caregiver?

A caregiver is a person who helps an older relative, neighbor or friend who needs assistance with daily living or care concerns because of their physical or cognitive health challenges. Common caregiving activities include helping with groceries, doctor appointments and managing medications. Caregiving comes with its own unique set of rewards and challenges.

What We Do

During the consultation, an advanced practice nurse trained in geriatrics meets with the caregiver(s). The goal is to identify challenging aspects of caregiving and develop a plan to manage them effectively. Education and coaching topics include:

  • Understanding medical conditions
  • Providing hands-on care
  • Improving communication
  • Behavior management strategies

UC Davis Health patients need a referral from a UC Davis Health physician or provider for these services. The clinic accepts referrals for patients ages 65 and older with selected insurance payors, including Medi-Cal GMC plans. To find out which insurance plans are accepted, please contact us.
