Changes coming for parking permit rates
To maintain safe, reliable parking facilities and support the long-term sustainability of the campus parking system, parking permit rates will increase at the end of March. The change is necessary to assist with the ongoing maintenance and operational costs of all existing parking, increased shuttle services, and the recently opened Parking Structure 7.
Employee parking rates have remained unchanged for the past three years, and rates were not increased for more than a decade prior to that time. UC Davis Health has experienced significant growth in workforce size, patient volume, and physical infrastructure over the last several years, requiring significant expansion of parking and shuttle services on the Sacramento Campus. That growth has increased parking-related costs, including structural maintenance, lighting, security systems, elevators, paving, technology systems, charging systems, shuttle service, and long-term capital improvements required to keep parking facilities safe and functional.
Parking fees pay for only a portion of the actual costs of building, operating, and maintaining parking infrastructure. This rate increase also aligns with the broader UC Davis campus parking program, including transportation demand management strategies that expand commuting options over time.
This change follows other recent difficult parking changes, including the planned increase in patient parking in PS4 and its transition to a D-permit garage, and UC Davis Health leaders have said they understand how cumulative changes, even if unrelated, can feel frustrating.
What is changing?
Effective March 30, 2026, the monthly fee for all employee parking permits will increase by $10. This adjustment applies uniformly across all permit types and locations.
There are no additional changes associated with this update:
• No changes to parking eligibility
• No modifications to permit types
• No changes to access privileges or locations
Daily parking rates via ParkMobile will also increase to align proportionally with monthly permit pricing. The new daily rate, effective March 30, will increase from $2.32 to $3.29, and the two-person carpool rate will increase from $27.55 to $37.00.
Discounted rates at Aggie Square Parking Structure
Parking is now available for students and employees at the Aggie Square Parking Structure. There is a new promotional rate for Aggie Square Garage offering a discounted rate compared to standard campus structures, providing an additional lower-cost parking option.
A promotional monthly rate of $89.00 is available beginning April 1, 2026, for a fixed 12-month term running April 2026 through March 31, 2027. The $89.00 rate applies only to this defined 12-month promotional period.
Employees who enroll after April 1 will receive the $89.00 promotional rate only for the remaining months within that promotional window. For example, an employee who signs up in October 2026 would receive the $89.00 rate for six months (October 2026 through March 31, 2027). Beginning April 1, 2027, the monthly rate would revert to the prevailing rate.
Other discounts for Sacramento Campus parking
This decision was made after careful evaluation of the parking system costs, long-term infrastructure needs to support parking, and the need for parking fees to pay for a greater share of parking costs.
While parking permits are optional, we recognize that for many employees, driving is the most practical commuting option. However, there are a number of alternatives that can reduce, or even completely eliminate, the costs of parking and the need to park a car.
Programs such as the Elk Grove Express or the Regional Transit / Light Rail pass can remove the costs of commuting completely, as they are free for employees and students. Or, another way to reduce costs is a 2-person carpool, which has a monthly permit cost of only $37.00 per person.
