Let’s be good neighbors: Avoid parking in front of nearby homes

(SACRAMENTO)

Government and Community Relations is receiving ongoing complaints from nearby neighbors and neighborhood associations near the Sacramento campus expressing concern about employees parking in front of their homes. UC Davis Health provides a range of low-cost and convenient parking and transportation options. Employees should park in the available garages or lots on campus, not in front of nearby residences. In addition, neighbors have reported congestion on V Street during shift changes caused by employee pickups and parking in front of homes.

As a public institution, UC Davis Health is expected to model stewardship and respect. When we park in spaces not meant for us, it gives the impression that we are not caring for the community we serve. We can and should do better.

What you can do

  • Park on campus: Aggie Square Garage and Parking Structure 7 continue to have plenty of employee parking spaces available, even during peak hours and mid-shifts. For those working in the medical center, consider parking here and then walking or taking a courtesy shuttle to your destination. Learn more about employee parking permits here.

The UC Davis Health courtesy shuttle runs every 5 to 7 minutes or by request, depending on location. Parking Structure 7, located near the MIND Institute off 50th Street, holds 1,250 parking spaces for UC Davis Health employees.

  • Take the bus: Take advantage of public transportation. For those traveling from Davis or Elk Grove, the Causeway Connection and Elk Grove Express Bus are convenient and low-cost options.

  • Become a Green Commuter: The Green Commuter Program at UC Davis Health promotes sustainable transportation practices while reducing the cost and stress of commuting. Walking, biking, transit and carpooling are all great options.

  • Schedule pick-ups on the Sacramento campus. Please use designated pick-up areas rather than idling and parking in restricted areas on V Street and other nearby streets.
