New year, new commute?
Are you looking to reduce stress, save money, or exercise more in 2026? Achieve all your goals with a green commute!
UC Davis Health’s Green Commuter Program offers benefits to employees who walk, bike, take public transportation, or carpool to work.
Benefits of a Green Commute
- Save money: Not only can you save money on fuel and parking, but you can also reduce the miles and wear-and-tear on your vehicle.
- Time for yourself: Use your commute time to enjoy a walk or bike ride. Or sit back and relax on the bus or light rail while someone else does the driving.
- Less stress: Lose the stress of driving in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
- Guaranteed Ride Program: This program can get you home in case of an emergency.
- Courtesy parking passes: Convenient for those occasional days where you need to drive.
For bicyclists, there are eight bike shelters around the Sacramento campus, in addition to bike racks and lockers. Simply register your bicycle or scooter to gain access.

Employees eligible for regional transit subsidies
The Green Commuter Program offers a transit subsidy of up to $100 per month. The subsidy covers the entire cost of a monthly pass for SacRT, making the commute free for most transit riders.
Whether you utilize transit for your daily commute or only ride occasionally, the transit subsidy program allows you flexibility to take transit whenever you need. Learn more about the transit subsidy, or visit the Parking Office to obtain a Connect Card.
Not sure which options will work for you?
The Green Commuter Program can help! The team can help you plan your transit route or search for a carpool partner.
For guidance on your transit options, reach out to GreenCommuter@health.ucdavis.edu with information about your commute and work schedule.
If you are interested in joining a carpool, but do not know of anyone making your commute, complete the Carpool Interest Form. The Green Commuter team can reach out to employees in your neighborhood to see if your work schedules align.
