My approach to excellent patient care is simple. I listen first and then ask questions. I make sure that all patient concerns have been acknowledged and have a clear working plan by the end of the visit. The patient is the focus, not the computer screen. I engage the patient in decision making as patients intuitively know what is best for them. I see myself as the information, medical expertise provider and then the collaboration with the patient begins. I take patient feedback seriously and adapt as needed to assure that my patients are satisfied with their medical care.
I also believe in direct communication between the patient and the doctor. For this reason, I rely heavily on MyChart for timely patient-physician communication. I personally review my messages. This allows for timely support to my patients and longitudinal relationships.
I also believe in staying current with evidenced-based patient care. I am an active member of various medical associations. I maintain my board certification in Internal Medicine. I subscribe to various bodies of literature to help keep me up to date on evidence- based Internal Medicine. When I don't know the answer, I look it up in and outside of the exam room. My participation in the residency program as one of the primary teachers is the clinic and hospital settings fosters my ability to stay up to date on medical research that directly affects patient care.
