Philosophy of Care

There is no silver bullet to battle COPD, but meaningful and life-changing outcomes are possible through precise phenotyping of disease and personalized care.  I thoroughly review patient medical records and listen to the patient's history to devise a clear, thoughtful diagnostic and therapeutic plan. Most importantly, I educate my patients about my proposed plan so that together we can make a diagnosis and optimize treatment.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Kuhn is a pulmonology and critical care (i.e. intensive care) specialist. He is a specialist in the management of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and alpha-1 anti-trypsin deficiency. Dr. Kuhn serves as co-director of the UC Davis Comprehensive COPD Clinic and director of the Alpha-1 Foundation designated Clinical Resource Center.

Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Kuhn's research interest is in the management of patients with acute exacerbations of COPD including: early identification of exacerbation using new technologies such as remote patient monitoring to prevent hospitalizations and undue worsening of disease. Dr. Kuhn applies health informatics tools and new technologies to improve the management of COPD patients in the modern health care environment.
