I am dedicated to providing high-quality, evidence-based, empathic and respectful care to all patients. My patients' experiences are the center of my practice, and I strive to work with each of my patients to treat them as a "whole" person, not defined by their disease. I value open communication, and spend time educating, asking and answering questions in order to develop a complete understanding in order to create patient-centered care plans that align with each individual's unique circumstances and values. I also respect the important role caregivers and families have in sickness and recovery.
Dr. Sarma is a pulmonary and critical care (ICU) specialist. She has clinical interests in general pulmonary medicine, multidisciplinary team-based care for critically ill patients, and pulmonary vascular disease including pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary embolism.
Dr. Sarma's research focuses on the intersection of medicine, policy and health equity. She is specifically interested in mixed-methods health services research to improve health equity for patients with lung disease across the care spectrum. She also enjoys teaching and mentoring trainees at all levels.
