The video “Healthier Food, Stronger Economy: The Benefits of Sourcing Local and Organic Ingredients” tied for the prize in the category of Healthy Living. The award was presented via video by famed ballet dancer Misty Copeland and accepted by UC Davis Health Director of News and Media Relations Pamela Wu. In her remarks, Wu thanked staff videographer Chris Nelson and the Food and Nutrition Services team “for giving us a great story to tell.” In the winning video, Executive Chef Santana Diaz visits Durst Organic Growers in Esparto. He explains how buying local, organic produce is better for the environment and helps to keep money in the local economy.

The video “Beads of Courage” won in the category of Health/Science News. CNN medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta presented the award via video to UC Davis Health CEO David Lubarsky. Lubarsky praised the work of the child life specialists at UC Davis Children's Hospital, who give special beads to children who are being treated for serious conditions. Pediatric patients receive beads for various steps in their treatment: a blood draw, an infusion, a surgery. The resulting collection of beads becomes a visual representation of a child’s courage during their medical journey.

The Sharecare Awards are the latest video honors won by the Department of Public Affairs and Marketing. Other awards include a Northern California EMMY® and a Ragan V3 Award, a national honor. Videos can be seen on the UC Davis Health YouTube channel.
