SAEM honored the physicians at its annual meeting in Phoenix for their excellence in emergency medicine, contributions improving the health of society and academic achievements.
The John Marx Leadership Award honors a SAEM member who has made exceptional contributions to emergency medicine through leadership — locally, regionally, nationally or internationally. Priority is given to those with demonstrated leadership within SAEM.
“I am honored and humbled by this important recognition by my peers from such a renowned organization that is dedicated to caring for acutely ill and injured patients,” said Kuppermann. “Throughout my career, I have strived to lead by example and encourage, teach and guide those along with whom I have had the honor to work.”
The Excellence in Research Award honors a SAEM member who has made outstanding contributions to emergency medicine through the creation and sharing of new knowledge.
“I am proud to receive this award for contributions to emergency medicine through innovation and sharing of new knowledge,” Holmes said. “Building and strengthening health research is essential to strengthening health delivery systems. I am honored to be part of an organization that prioritizes developing technologies, treatments and therapies that directly improve the lives of our patients.”
SAEM, the premier national academic organization in emergency medicine, was formed in 1989 from the merger of the University Association for Emergency Medicine and the Society of Teachers of Emergency Medicine. The organization is dedicated to improving the care of acutely ill and injured patients by improving research and education.
