The winter 2025 issue of Synthesis magazine is available. The biannual magazine of UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center shares news about advanced treatments, promising scientific discoveries and efforts to reach out to the community.
This issue’s cover story features the new MobileMammo+ bus hitting the road, bringing mobile mammography to the community. Services on the 45-foot clinic-on-wheels also includes multilingual care and health education.
The magazine explores the new Head and Neck Malignancies Innovation Group. Teams on both UC Davis campuses are working together to tackle one of the toughest types of cancer — head and neck cancer. It is a cancer common in dogs, too. One pet that already benefited from collaborative research underway within the innovation group is profiled.
Readers will learn about false-positive mammogram results that may deter women from future screenings.
Major advancements in lung cancer detection and treatment are also found in this issue. For the first time, lung cancer is being diagnosed more often at stage 1, when it is more treatable, rather than late stages.
Find out about the only clinic of its kind in Northern California focused on people who are suspected of having cancer. Clinic doctors are committed to getting them care quickly.
Same-day, in-home urgent care is now available to cancer patients, too.
Enloe Health is the newest UC Davis Health Cancer Care Network affiliate. Cancer patients at the Chico-area hospital will now be able to access UC Davis clinical trials close to home.
This issue also highlights two young osteosarcoma patients who are thriving and getting to do everything they hoped at their age. Another teenage girl has her life back, thanks to the new life-saving stem cell transplant program.
