Congratulations to Jennifer McGrath

Jennifer McGrath, MSN, RN, AACNP

Trauma Nurse Practitioner

Jennifer McGrath strives for excellence in her care for patients and her personal knowledge of medicine. She is an educator and leader to her colleagues. I have always had respect for Jennifer however I was astounded by her excellence after seeing a patient in our surgery clinic who was struggling with a myriad of post-operative complications. Jen identified many providers had "passed the buck" in her care when the patient needed nausea medication. The patient needed the medication because she was ill from all the antibiotics she required. The patient and her husband also revealed they were unsure about their home health nurse and her lack of sterile technique. Jen understood from what she was being told the home health nurse was not meeting standards of care. She contacted the agency and reported the nurse. Jennifer McGrath is the kind of provider and advocate all our patient's need. She takes the time to go the extra mile for patients who have fallen victim to marginalization within the larger healthcare system. The UC Davis community is very fortunate to have her be a part of our team.

About the DAISY Award

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses recognizes outstanding members of the nursing community and the very special work they do every day. It was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of the extraordinary nursing J. Patrick Barnes received when he was hospitalized. (DAISY is an acronym for diseases attacking the immune system.) This nursing recognition award program offers patients, families, and professional colleagues a way to honor nurses for all they do. The DAISY awardees consistently demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care.
