DAISY Award
Congratulations to Jilian Evans
Jillian Evans, RN, BSN
Davis 5 NICU
Jillian Evans is an incredibly committed NICU nurse. She consistently offers to primary the most difficult patients in the NICU. Presently, Jillian is the primary nurse for an infant with extensive medical issues. The child's parents are absent and Jillian has become more than his primary nurse. He lights up when he sees her and she consistently goes above and beyond, conferencing in to medical team care meetings on days off and attending developmental care team rounds to heighten the care this infant receives. She absolutely knows this child better than anyone else (including his parents). Here consistent love and attention have allowed him to reach developmental milestones that he could not have without her consistent presence. She draws diagrams of his wound care, to assist other staff and clearly documents and reports tips and tricks to make her patients care easier, and more comfortable. This is not the first time Jillian has displayed this commitment to a "difficult" primary patient. She is an example of the power of primary nursing. It is important to note that while a single person is typing this nomination, it is being submitted at the request of dozens of Jillian's peers who have noted her devotion to the NICU and her primary patients.
About the DAISY Award
The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses recognizes outstanding members of the nursing community and the very special work they do every day. It was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of the extraordinary nursing J. Patrick Barnes received when he was hospitalized. (DAISY is an acronym for diseases attacking the immune system.) This nursing recognition award program offers patients, families, and professional colleagues a way to honor nurses for all they do. The DAISY awardees consistently demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care.
