Congratulations to Michelle Kim

Michelle Kim, RN, BSN, CCRN

PACU

Michelle Kim is a Charge Nurse extraordinaire! She has worked in the PACU for many years and is consistently going above and beyond. Michelle and her daughter started sewing pillow cases for the pediatric patients in the Children’s Surgery Center years ago. Her daughter has moved onto college so Michelle is aided by the women in her church who sew and donate up to 50 pillowcases per week. She often donates the majority of the fabric needed for pillowcases herself. The pillowcases are given to each pediatric patient upon arrival to the Children’s Surgery Center and is reported by patients and their families as being a very special gift to them to help them through their hospital experience.  To date there have been close to 6,000 pillowcases donated.

Michelle also organizes the annual drive of goods in December to donate to foster children who are aging out of the foster system and will be needing supplies to start living on their own. She organizes a donation of 15-20 sets of these kits each year. Not only is Michelle a staunch advocate for patients, but she has been known to advocate for the nursing profession. I cannot think of a nurse more dedicated to providing compassionate care to her patients, her nurses and all those with whom she comes in contact.
