Philosophy of Care

I take the time to get to know my patients so I can treat each patient as an individual and take into account each patient's own medical history and lifestyle when making a plan. Making a plan with the patient instead of for them facilitates a more compliant and successful treatment course.

Clinical Interests

As a subspecialty pathologist in transfusion and apheresis services, Dr. Rubenstein devotes his clinical time seeing both inpatients and outpatients with a variety of hematologic and immunologic conditions on the apheresis consult service. He also performs consultative services within the transfusion medicine/blood bank department working up complex immunohematology cases.

He teaches medical students, residents, and fellows in all aspects of transfusion medicine practices.

He is passionate about quality improvement and integrating new technologies into the transfusion medicine service. He enjoys learning about new breakthroughs in the field and discussing how these can be integrated into current practice.

Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Rubenstein's academic interests are focused on specific areas of immunohematology including Rh blood group genetics, molecular techniques in transfusion medicine and daratumumab related non-specific antibody interference. He is also especially interested in new technologies as they relate to the blood bank and apheresis services.
