Free mammograms for uninsured women in the community during Breast Cancer Awareness Month

(SACRAMENTO)

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the UC Davis Health Department of Radiology is offering free mammogram screening exams to help meet the needs of uninsured members of our community.

The screening mammograms are available for uninsured women aged 40 and older who have no current symptoms. Women with symptoms need a different mammogram, called a diagnostic mammogram.

“About a quarter of all breast cancer deaths could be avoided through early detection such as regular mammography, but screening rates are very low among uninsured populations,” said UC Davis breast imaging supervisor Kami Gosal.

Appointments will be available on select Saturdays in October. The mammograms will be done at the UC Davis Health Lawrence J. Ellison Ambulatory Care Center at 4860 Y Street in Sacramento.

To schedule an appointment, please call (916) 734-6145 and ask to book an appointment for a free Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) screening mammogram. Spanish-speaking representatives are available. Appointments are required and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Patients needing follow-up care will be referred to their primary care provider or other health care provider.

*Free mammograms are offered for eligible, uninsured patients. For insured individuals, UC Davis Health will bill the insurer for the provided screening services, as appropriate.
