Health Policy and Administration Fellowship
The UC Davis Health Policy and Administration Fellowship is a one- or two-year program designed to train the next generation of emergency physician leaders in clinical operations, health policy, and systems transformation.
Fellows divide their time between clinical work as attending physicians in the UC Davis Emergency Department and immersive experiences in health policy, administration, and organized medicine. With UC Davis’s unique location near the California State Capitol and its institutional leadership in health equity and innovation, fellows gain first-hand exposure to the policy-making process, administrative strategy, and interdisciplinary approaches to advancing health systems change.
This innovative fellowship melds the worlds of health policy and healthcare administration—recognizing that the skills required to lead in either domain are deeply interconnected. Fellows work directly with UC Davis Emergency Medicine operational leadership on projects related to quality improvement, patient safety, equity, health systems science, and organizational strategy. They also engage with local and national organized medicine to strengthen their advocacy, policy development, and leadership skills.
Fellows may opt for a two-year track and pursue a Master’s in Public Health or Master’s in Clinical and Translational Science at UC Davis, with opportunities for clinical research through the Department of Emergency Medicine’s Division of Research.
Through tailored mentorship and experiential learning, this fellowship equips emergency physicians with the tools to become effective change agents across the healthcare ecosystem—whether in hospital administration, government, academia, or organized medicine.
